Gabriela Cedillo's life changed forever in September 2010. The film extra, 26, was driving a stunt vehicle for an action sequence in"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" when she was struck with a piece of metal ? left brain-damaged and with severe injuries.
Cedillo and her family were awarded an $18.5 million settlement as a result of what the studio called a "tragic accident,"?BBC?reported early Thursday.

As a result of the injury ??an investigation determined there was a faulty tow cable ??Cedillo now needs constant care, her attorney said.
After the accident, a portion of her skull was removed and she now endures memory loss, seizures, and is blind in one eye.

"We are pleased that the Cedillo family has agreed to move forward with the settlement. This was a tragic accident and our thoughts and prayers remain with Gabriela," a Paramount Pictures rep said. A Chicago judge approved the settlement this week; Cedillo and her family sued back in October 2010.
Released July 2011, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" (the third in the franchise) starred Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Josh Duhamel, and went on to gross over $1 billion worldwide.
