Chinese Crunch Human Genome with Videogame Chips
A Chinese lab has significantly reduced the amount of time it takes to analyze genome sequencing by switching their computers over from standard CPU?s to GPU?s. This first thing someone will ask is "Yeah, that?s great, but can it run Crysis"?
BGI, a mega-lab located in China switched over to Nvidia GPU?s in its servers to accomplish this feat. If the research maintains its present level of speed, the results will be nothing less than spectacular for medical research.
The world?s largest genome sequencing center once needed four days to analyze data describing a human genome. Now it needs just six hours.
